Williams was the contributor from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. He sent me lists of the parish honor roll students and any other news items or articles he thought of parish interest. In addition, he served as an assitant editor of sorts, always cheering me on and giving suggestions and sympathy. He was a good friend and mentor. Before then, my father and brothers (Chris, Kevin & John) came to know Fr. Gannon during their annual retreats at Bellarmine Hall in IL. Tom provided Chris with a truly unique combination of spiritual guidance, unconditional love and understanding, and strong-willed, uncompromising resistance to the demons Chris faced. Presiding at Chris's funeral, Fr. Gannon's beautiful sermon was testament to their bond. Like my brother, Fr. Gannon always greeted me with a great bear-hug. Thankfully, Chris's bear-hugs never included a sweater that reeked of cigarette smoke! Still, I miss Tom and his greetings all the same. Fr. Gannon - fondly remembered by all the Farley boys.
