Fr. Jim Gartland, SJ

Fr. Gartland

Fr. James Gartland, SJ, was ordained a Jesuit in 1993. A member of the team that founded Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in 1996, he taught theology at the school from 2000 until 2004, when he was appointed to his current role as president. From 1994 to 1999, Fr. Gartland was pastor of St. Procopius Church, a Mexican immigrant parish in Chicago. After teaching theology at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1983. During his training, Fr. Gartland taught in Peru for three years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University, master’s degrees in philosophy and religious education from Loyola University Chicago, and a master’s in divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. He was elected to the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2006.


Fr. Martin Schreiber, SJ

Fr. Schreiber

Fr. Martin Schreiber, SJ, was ordained a Jesuit in 2009 and is studying for his doctorate in education at Loyola University Chicago. After earning his bachelor’s degree in finance from Miami University in Ohio, he worked for McDonald & Company Investments before entering the Society of Jesus in 1998. Fr. Schreiber has taught theology and coached at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, led immersion trips to Haiti and El Salvador, worked in East Africa, and ministered to the incarcerated. He holds a master’s degree in philosophy from Loyola University Chicago and a master’s in divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. In addition to his service on the Board of Trustees for Loyola High School in Detroit and Chicago Jesuit Academy, Fr. Schreiber was elected to the John Carroll University Board of Trustees in 2011.
